one talent with a will behind it will accomplish more than ten without it. orison swett marden

Do you know amaryllis flowers?  Stores sell them around December, and my family tends to pick them up as Christmas gifts for each other.  We like to race them, see whose gets tallest fastest, whose blossoms first, and so on.  Problem is, they tend to need propping up because they get so top heavy so fast.  This year, ours got its head lopped off because we moved it.  All that work, wasted.

That spindly stem?  That’s exactly the kind of support you don’t want beneath your talent.  You want strength; you want will.  And then you’ll win the race, and you’ll get places, and your . . . dreams won’t get lopped off before they fully bloom.

The inspirational quote, “one talent with a will behind it will accomplish more than ten without it,” comes from Orison Swett Marden in An Iron Will.
